Four in a Row!
Once again we have decided to support the Assistance Dog Program. We have increased or donation to $20,000 due to the increased cost associated with the training. We also have found out that Defiance and Delta Eagles are now supporting this program. The support that we give goes directly to the training and to see the faces of the people that receive the dog's you just can't describe it. The Assistance Dog program is located in Swanton, Ohio. You can check out their web page at www.adai.org.
In 2007 the Bryan Middle School contacted the Eagles to ask for a donation to help the Assistance Dog Program. Bryan Middle School currently has first had knowledge of what these dogs can do. They have one of the therapy trained dogs. Once we looked into the program we found that it costs $15,000.00 to train one dog. The Eagles stepped up to the plate and donated the amount to train one dog. When we contacted the school and the Assistance Dog program to let them know about the donation they were overjoyed. They invited us to the benefit for a day of Golf and Dinner. Our representatives were well received by the crowd.
In 2008 and again this year the Eagles decided to do the same thing. Another $15,000.00 was donated to train an additional dog. Once again we were the largest single donation. The crowd gave our people a standing ovation.
The Assistance Dog program trains dogs to help disabled people. They are trained to help do simple tasks that many disabled people find very difficult to do. They also have the therapy dogs in schools. Kids will tell the dogs things that they will not tell anyone else. This leads to getting the correct help for the child.
